Dixon Ranch Fire-Followers' Ecology Tour Image
Explore the 457-acre Dixon Ranch with seven of your favorite adventure buddies. This managed cattle ranch, located just north-east of Chico, is a gorgeous blue oak savannah wonderland with canyons, streams and grasslands. Dixon ranch was impacted by the recent Park Fire, but it will bounce back! Be the first to experience the rebounding of life on this majestic ranch in the spring of 2025. This guided 4–6 hour tour through the property with the ranch owner and NCRLT staff will allow for plenty of learning, wildlife watching, and relaxing. Along your tour you may see some of the large herds of mule deer, hear gaggles of turkeys, spot a brown bear, witness a Golden Eagle, or pet a donkey. The grasses and blue oaks will be adorned in their bright spring greens as the wildflowers sprinkle and carpet the landscape with pastel colors post-fire. The perennial streams will be flowing life into the land. Guests will walk along the creeks looking for tadpoles and other benthic creatures hanging in the pools and volcanic rock fissures along the streambed. When the right place has been found, and the donkeys have had a pet or two, guests will enjoy a locally sourced and bountiful picnic while learning about fire ecology and the future of wildland fire fuel management in NCRLT’s service area.
